Shasta Head Start Child Development, is part of a
national program that provides income-eligible pre-school children
with educational and developmental activities as well as social
services for families. There are locations in Yreka, Weed and

Siskiyou Child Care Council provides child care
payment assistance, an on-site center, a toy and resource lending
library, child care provider training and respite child care
services.
Siskiyou Early Head Start offers families
comprehensive child development services for pregnant mothers and
children from newborns to 3 years old. Services are offered at both
the Center located in Yreka and at the parents’ homes.
Women, Infants and Children (WIC) WIC is a
temporary assistance program for pregnant and breast-feeding women,
infants and children up to five years of age, who have special
nutritional needs. WIC provides nutrition education to help improve
eating habits, and dispenses supplemental food vouchers to buy
specific foods important for good health. Childhood immunizations
are also available at most WIC clinics, in addition to breastfeeding
education and support. WIC clinics are held monthly throughout

Siskiyou Domestic Violence and Crisis Center offers
services to victims of family violence and sexual assault.
They provide 24 hour crisis response and the only emergency shelter

California’s Healthy Families is low cost insurance
for children and teens. It provides health, dental and vision

sites that give long-distance parents ideas for activities to share
with their children for those times when they are separated.
