Colleen Setzer was first elected to office
in 1998 and has been re-elected in 2002 and
2006. Colleen is a Siskiyou County
native and lives in Yreka with her husband,
Pete. She prides herself on providing the
most efficient service possible and doing
business in a helpful, friendly manner.

Welcome to the Siskiyou County
Clerk's web information!
The County Clerk's Office provides
several services, including serving as the Registrar of
Voters, elections administration,
Clerk to the Siskiyou County Board of
Supervisors and Clerk to the
Assessment Appeals Board.
The County Clerk's Office issues
marriage licenses, performs
civil wedding ceremonies, and
deputizes persons to officiate at
a civil marriage ceremony. In addition, the Clerk
accepts filings for
Fictitious Business Name Statements, registers
process servers, registers Unlawful
Detainer Assistants, registers Notaries Public,
registers
professional photocopiers, and processes
passport applications.

ELECTION INFORMATION:
Requirements to register to vote
You may register to vote if you are
currently a United States citizen, will be at least 18
years of age at the time of the next election, are not
in prison or on parole for a felony conviction and
have
not been judged by a court to be mentally incompetent.
How do I register to vote?
Register to vote by completing a voter
registration card and sending it to the County Clerk's
Office. Voter registration cards are available
throughout Siskiyou County at city hall offices,
libraries, post offices, Department of Motor Vehicles,
or at the County Clerk's Office. You can also
register to vote on line through the
California Secretary of
State.
When do I to register to
vote?
You can register to vote when you
reach age 18 or if you will be 18 on or before the next
election. You must register to vote at least 15
days prior to an election to be eligible to vote in that
election.
When do I have to re-register to vote?
If you have previously been registered
to vote, but move, change your mailing address, change
your name, or change your political party registration,
you must re-register to vote.
Political Parties Recognized by the
State of California
When you register to vote, you can
choose to register with a political party or choose not
to be registered with a political party. If you
choose not to register with a political party, you are
referred to as "nonpartisan" or "decline to state."
As of July 2009, there are six qualified political
parties in the State of California: Democratic Party,
Republican Party, American Independent Party, Green
Party, Libertarian Party, and Peace and Freedom Party.

Voting by Mail
If you prefer to vote by mail and have
your ballot mailed to you prior to each election, there
are several ways available to you to apply for
vote-by-mail ballots:

Initial Box #15 on your vote
registration card.

Complete and mail in the
Application for Vote-By-Mail Ballot located on the
back cover of your sample ballot that you will
receive approximately one month prior to each
election.

You can write to the County
Clerk's Office, 510 N. Main Street, Yreka, CA 96097,
and ask to receive a vote-by-mail ballot. Your
written request must include your name, residence
address, and your signature.

Prior to each election, an
Application for Vote-By-Mail Ballot will be posted
on this website, under the specific election date.
You can complete this application and mail it to the
County Clerk's Office.
Siskiyou County Voter Registration Information
Requesting Voter File Information
Under specific conditions, Siskiyou
County voter registration information is available for
purchase. You are required to complete a
written application and submit it to the Siskiyou
County Clerk's Office, along with a photocopy of valid
photo identification and the fee. The file will be
provided on CD in txt format, which can be converted to
Excel format. Included on the CD is a list of
precincts, file format and code tables. The CD
consists of active voters, their addresses, political
party affiliation, precinct information and vote
history. Typical turnaround time for the CD is one
to two weeks. Fee: $16.00
Election Fraud/Candidate
Fraud/Voter Fraud Complaints
The County Clerk's Office has no legal
authority nor training to conduct fraud investigations
into alleged election/candidate/voter fraud.
However, the Clerk's Office will provide a complainant
with the Secretary of State's
Election Fraud Complaint form, and/or refer the
complainant directly to the State Fraud and
Investigations Unit, (916) 657-2166 or 1-800-345-VOTE.
It is the County Clerk's policy that
any written complaints sent directly to the County
Clerk's Office will be forwarded to the Secretary of
State Fraud Division. The Clerk's Office will notify
complainant, either verbally or in writing, that the
complaint has been forwarded to the State and provide
state contact information to the complainant. If
the complainant is unwilling/unable to put the complaint
in writing, the person will be referred directly to the
Secretary of State Fraud Division to talk with an
investigator and/or file a complaint via telephone. To
contact the Fraud and Investigations Unit, call (916)
657-2166 or to lodge a recorded complaint, call
1-800-345-VOTE.

CLERK TO THE BOARD OF
SUPERVISORS
Siskiyou County Clerk Colleen Setzer
serves as the Ex-Officio Clerk to the Siskiyou County
Board of Supervisors. The Clerk's Office is
responsible for ensuring agenda items meet
county submission standards, publishing notices of
public hearings, organizing and distributing
Board Agendas, and compiling and distributing
meeting minutes. The Clerk's Office also
maintains Board related records and monitors membership
and appointments to various board-appointed committees.

Siskiyou County Code.
CLERK TO THE ASSESSMENT
APPEALS BOARD
The County Clerk's Office provides
staff support to this Board that hears requests for
changed assessment of property tax assessed by the
Assessor. For time lines to file an

MARRIAGE INFORMATION
A California Marriage License is valid
for use in the state of California only. Only unmarried
persons may purchase a license to marry in California.
There is no residency requirement or waiting period
between the purchase of a marriage license and the
ceremony. A marriage license is valid for 90 days
from the date of purchase, which means that the couple
must have a ceremony within those 90 days. State
statutes provide that first cousins may legally marry in
California.
THE NAME EQUALITY ACT OF 2007 allows
one or both applicants for a California marriage license
to elect to change the middle and/or last names by which
each party wishes to be known after solemnization of the
marriage. What you should know before

There are two types of marriage
licenses available through the Siskiyou County Clerk's
Office:
PUBLIC MARRIAGE LICENSE
This document is a public record and
filed with the County Recorder's Office and the State of
California. This license can be used throughout
the state of California. FEE: $70.00 - cash
or money order only
Requirements to Purchase a
Public Marriage License:

Both parties must appear in person
in the Clerk's Office at the same time to purchase
the license

Must be 18 years or older
-
Present valid photo ID with birth
date on it, such as a drivers license

If a previous marriage has ended
in the prior 12 months, provide paperwork verifying
date the marriage ended

CONFIDENTIAL MARRIAGE
LICENSE
This document is not a public record
and is filed in the County Clerk's Office. Access
to the record is limited to the parties of the marriage
or by order of the Superior Court. This license
can be used only in Siskiyou County. FEE:
$78.00 - cash or money order only

CERTIFIED COPY OF
CONFIDENTIAL MARRIAGE LICENSE
A certified copy of this document may
be obtained only by a party to the marriage or by order
of the Superior Court. Either party to the
confidential marriage may obtain a certified copy from
the County Clerk's Office by completing an
application for a certified copy.

MARRIAGE CEREMONY:
Staff from the County Clerk's Office
is available on Friday afternoons to officiate at civil
marriage ceremonies. An appointment for a marriage
ceremony is required and can be arranged by calling the
Clerk's Office at 530-842-8084. FEE: $66.00
- cash or money order only
DEPUTY COMMISSIONER OF
CIVIL MARRIAGES:
This commission provides for a person
over the age of 18 to be deputized by the Siskiyou
County Clerk's Office to preside at one civil marriage
ceremony. An appointment to be deputized is
required and can be arranged by calling the Clerk's
Office at 530-842-8084. FEE: $75.00
