The Siskiyou County Victim Witness Program is part of the District Attorney’s Office (Criminal Division) and is located in the County Courthouse at 311 Fourth Street. Our office is on the second floor, Room 210.

Office staff consists of one Victim/Witness Coordinator, four Victim/Witness Advocates and Victim/Witness Volunteers.

The main goal of the Victim Witness program is to assist victims and witnesses of crime in recovering physically, mentally and financially from the effects of crime incidents. A secondary goal is to assist the District Attorney’s Office in successfully prosecuting cases involving crimes committed in Siskiyou Country.

As a crime victim, you have the right to be compensated, to be heard and to be informed. The Victim/Witness Center provides the following free services and assistance to crime victims:

  • CRISES INTERVENTION, INCLUDING IMMEDIATE CRISES COUNSELING AND SUBSEQUENT REFERRAL TO A LICENSED PROFESSIONAL THERAPIST FOR THERAPEUTIC FOLLOW-UP COUNSELING.

  • ADVOCACY AND SUPPORT DURING LAW ENFORCEMENT INTERVIEWS.

  • INDIVIDUAL ORIENTATION TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM

  • INDIVIDUAL PREPARATION FOR COURT APPEARANCES, ESCORT AND SUPPORT DURING COURT HEARINGS.

  • NOTIFICATION OF SIGNIFICANT DEVELOPMENTS IN YOUR CASE.

  • RECOVERY OF PROPERTY HELD AS EVIDENCE BY A LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY.

  • RECOVERY OF LOSSES AND EXPENSES INCURRED AS A RESULT OF THE CRIME.

  • EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE REFERRALS TO APPROPRIATE LOCAL AGENCIES.

  • UPON REQUEST. NOTIFICATION OF CRIME TO FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

  • EMPLOYER NOTIFICATION.

  • CRIME PREVENTION INFORMATION.

  • VICTIM OF CRIME CLAIMS TO THE STATE BOARD OF CONTROL FOR MEDICAL EXPENSES, PSYCHOLOGICAL COUNSELING, LOSS OF INCOME OR SUPPORT, JOB TRAINING, FUNERAL AND BURIAL EXPENSES.
