Jail Programs

Food Services:

The jail employs 4 civilian cooks who follow a dietician approved menu, providing 3 meals daily per inmate. In 1998, we prepared in excess of 8500 meals on average per month. Medical & Special Diet needs are coordinated by the medical service provider (see medical services).

Medical Services:

California Forensic Medical Group is the medical provider for the Siskiyou County Jail. They have an on-site Registered Nurse, specializing in correctional medicine. In turn, she consults as needed with CFMG doctors regarding the medical, dental, & psychiatric needs of inmates. Medical testing, X-rays, & prescription medication are provided for the inmate through CFMG.

Reading & Education:

Literacy service is provided through the Siskiyou County READ program. An on-site tutor will assist the willing inmate in learning math, English, computer skills, life-skills (checking account, job applications, drivers license, etc.). In 1998, 12 inmates gained their GED certificate through the READ program.

Alcoholics Anonymous & Narcotics Anonymous:

Both services are offered weekly at the jail, through recognized representatives from either group. Attendance is voluntary for the inmate.

Religious Services:

Non-denominational religious services are offered by volunteer lay-ministers twice per week. Visits by a particular inmate’s pastor are accommodated as best possible during regular visiting times.

Tobacco, Drug & Alcohol Counseling:

This program offered by Behavioral Health Services, offers the addict a program similar to AA or NA; and is coordinated with a post-release treatment program. Again, attendance is voluntary.

Domestic Violence Counseling:

This program is offered by Siskiyou Domestic Violence Prevention, particularly oriented towards the female inmate.
