It takes three separate Siskiyou County Offices, Assessor,
Auditor-Controller, and Tax Collector to produce and account for your
property tax bill and payment.
The Assessor establishes
the assessed value of your property by appraising the value of the
property as required by State Law. The assessed value of your property
is then placed on a list called the Assessment Roll, (the "Roll") along
with all other properties in Siskiyou County. The Roll is then presented
to the Siskiyou County Auditor-Controller for further processing.
The Auditor-Controller
extends the Roll ("Extended Roll"). During this process, the general tax
and special assessments are applied to the Roll. The Extended Roll is
then sent to the Siskiyou County Tax Collector for individual tax bill
distribution and payment collection.
The Tax Collector receives
the Extended Roll, which is utilized to print and mail the property tax
bills. When you send your remittance to pay your property taxes, the Tax
Collector then records that payment against your tax balance due. The
Auditor-Controller then distributes your payment to the appropriate
taxing agencies.
