We offer help, support, and frequently asked
questions for use with the County of Siskiyou website. There
is a wide range of knowledge among computer users with some
being very experienced while others may just be starting out.
The frequently asked questions on this page will assist you in
using portions of the County website that you may require help
with. Click on
the following FAQ's:
1) How do I offer
feedback, suggestions, or voice concerns?
The County of Siskiyou website is comprised
of many "subwebs" within the total structure such as
departments and offices plus additional pages of public
interest. The content within the site is governed by each
department or office and any content or changes come from the
head of the department or a website contact person within each
department. The site is maintained by a company in the private
sector and they are under contract with the County to perform
any website changes or updates as directed by the department
head or contact person. If you wish to provide feedback,
website suggestions, or voice concerns, please
contact the specific department or
office that you are concerned with.

2) Is there disability
accessibility on the County website?
The County of Siskiyou website has been
designed with those people that have disability or
accessibility issues in mind. We have used high contrast
colors in our graphics, a common 10 point font, and standard
link colors which look the same in all browsers. A
blue link (not-visited) means
you have not yet access that page and a
purple link (visited) means
you have accessed that page. The text or content is always on
the right of the screen with a white background with black
fonts for easy reading.
For the visually impaired, we offer a link
to the most popular screen readers such as
WindowEyes &
Jaws. These programs can be used effectively by the
visually impaired on this web site. Please note that we do not
offer any support for third party programs or applications.
You may also increase the text size while in your browser;
however, the layout of the site may become distorted. This is
especially beneficial if you have a lot of reading to do on a
single page. We also offer redundant text links for
image-mapped images.
Please Note: We offer instructions
for the most commonly used Internet browsers to assist the
majority of Internet users; however, we cannot offer
instructions for every type of browser available. Instructions
may vary according to what version of browser you are using.

Adobe Acrobat Access 4.05 for Windows
- The Adobe Acrobat Access Plug-in 4.05 enables vision
impaired users to read Adobe PDF documents in Acrobat 4.0x or
Acrobat Reader 4.0x. The Access plug-in supplements the
standard Acrobat and Reader display of PDF documents with an
alternative view that supports screen-reading applications for
Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT. This view
presents the textual content of a PDF file in a separate
window. The window contains the text in an approximated
reading order. Standard Acrobat features, such as hypertext
links, notes, bookmarks, sounds, and movies, are available in
the Access view. Download the free
Adobe Acrobat Access Plug-in here.

3) What about different
computers & browsers compatibility?
It's impossible to design a website that
looks exactly the same in a Mac or PC and in the many
different browsers such as Internet Explorer, Nestcape, AOL,
and Opera (to name only a few), and versions of those browsers
that are available today as well as the many different
resolutions (screen sizes) that are standard on different
computers. And to top it off, each computer has a different
graphic card plus there are hundreds of monitors each with
different viewing sizes and graphics capabilities.
The County site has been designed and
structured with ease of navigation, functionality, and
professionalism that will work well with most computers and
the most commonly used Internet browsers and versions of those
browsers. The site has been tested in Internet Explorer,
Netscape, and Opera. If you have an older computer or browser, we
recommend upgrading so that you can enjoy the new features
offered in the latest versions. Please note that we cannot
offer any browser or computer technical support.

4) Do you offer
help with my Internet browser?
There is never a shortage of "HELP"
available on the Internet. There are many articles and
websites devoted to helping computer users as well as those in
need of help with browser issues. You can visit any search
engine and type in "browser help" or "computer help" and with
a little searching, you will no doubt find what you need.
Additionally, each browser is setup with files that will
provide you with all the help that you need. In both Internet
Explorer and Netscape, just click on "HELP" in the menu bar
and you will find an index of topics or visit the developer's
website for more help articles. Please note that we cannot
offer technical support for your Internet browser.
Please Note: We offer some
instructions for the most commonly used Internet browsers to
assist the majority of Internet users; however, we cannot
offer instructions for every type of browser available.
Instructions may vary according to what version of browser you
are using.

5) How do I print web
pages?
Web pages are designed to fit the width of
your screen and they are not necessarily designed to
fit a standard piece of printing paper. To complicate this
even more, each browser prints differently. For instance when
printing a page that is structured with tables, such as the
Tax Sale List,
Netscape and Internet Explorer both will print the page
completely differently.
Most PC computers and Internet Explorer
users can right click your mouse and say "print" while
Netscape and Mac users cannot. Whatever type of browser you
use, you should be able to use the "Print" button in the menu
bar of your browser. Printers also have optional setting such
as printing landscape or portrait as well as printing in color
or black and white. Keep these printing options in mind as you
choose to print a page in the County website.
Please Note: We offer instructions
for the most commonly used Internet browsers to assist the
majority of Internet users; however, we cannot offer
instructions for every type of browser available. Instructions
may vary according to what version of browser you are using.

6) How do I read/view
Adobe Acrobat (PDF) Files?
County
forms and applications on this website are available for
download in PDF format. PDF is the standard among the Web and
the most commonly used by all computers and browsers. Adobe
Acrobat Reader™ is free, and freely distributable, software
that lets you view and print Adobe Portable Document Format
(PDF) files. With Acrobat Reader, you also can fill in and
submit PDF forms online, as well as download encrypted content
from the Web and unlock it with Web Buy. This plugin should
come standard with your browser, but if you need to update the
program or install it, just click
Download Adobe Acrobat! and download it from Adobe's
website.
NOTE: Some users may
experience problems viewing PDF documents in Microsoft
Internet Explorer. When you try to view a PDF file in Internet
Explorer, you may see a blank window or frame instead of the
PDF file. This may occur even though you have installed the
Adobe Acrobat Reader program and you are normally able to
view PDF files in that program. For solution information, see
the Microsoft Support Page.

7) How do I navigate the
County website?
You will find two drop down menus located
below the top pictorial graphic at the top of almost every
page within the County website. The first is the "County
Department & Services" menu and the second is the "How Do I
Locate" menu. Both menus are your way of navigating to your
desired department, office, or page of interest. Simply select
a topic of interest and you will automatically be redirected
to the desired page.
County Department & Services Menu
(located near the top of each page)
This menu contains an index of departments, offices, and
services that are provided by the County of Siskiyou. The
first link "Department Index" will take you to a contact page
with a list of all departments and phone numbers within the
County system. The remaining links will take you to each
department's home page.
How Do I Locate Menu (located near the
top of each page)

within the County website. It offers quick and easy access to
topics that you may be searching for.

8) Why sometimes when I
click on a page, the images or page does not load?
This issue can normally be resolved by clicking
on your "Refresh or Reload" button on your browser. The county
website was designed with quick page download times and there
are many factors that can cause a "Page not Displayed" or
image not to load. Possible causes could be from slow server
response, scrolling before the page loads (normally a Nestcape
issue), or a slow Internet connection. |
