Directing Change

For three years, Siskiyou County MHSA has partnered with Hellikon in the statewide Directing Change Program and Film Contest to raise awareness of suicide, stigma, and discrimination and promoting mental health in students. This program targets youth 12-25 and teaches them about mental health and suicide prevention, and has them formulate their messages about those topics and create short films about them for their peers and community. Each year, Hellikon chooses a few new school sites to work with the students in creating and editing a video that tells a unique story. The finished product is presented to the community through a public forum, and Hellikon enters the video into the Statewide Directing Change contest. Over the past few years, students who have worked with Hellikon have won awards for their submissions.
