Air Monitoring

Yreka Foothill Air Monitoring Station (EPA Site # 060932001)

The District monitors the following criteria air pollutants at the Yreka site as part of the State and Local Air Monitoring Network:

  • Ozone: The Yreka ozone monitor continuously analyzes and records ambient ground-level ozone concentrations. Data is checked for errors, processed, and reported to the California Air Resources Board (CARB) quarterly. Precision checks are made and recorded regularly to insure data integrity.

  • Particulates: Like ozone, ambient concentrations of Particulate Matter less than 2.5 microns in diameter (PM2.5) are also continuously monitored in Yreka. Data is quality assured and reported to CARB.

The AirNow site displays the current air quality for Yreka.

Additional Siskiyou County Air Monitoring Sites:

  • Acid Rain: The District has one rain gauge and precipitation collector located near the Siskiyou County Airport. A new collection bucket is installed every Tuesday. Precipitation samples are measured, evaluated and sent to the National Atmospheric Deposition Program National Trends Network (NADP/NTN) for analysis and reporting.
  • PM Sensors:  Numerous non-regulatory low-cost PM sensors provided by CARB are deployed throughout the County. The information is not quality assured, however the sensors update continuously and can reveal when there are rapid, changing trends occurring in local air quality. See the PurpleAir map for low cost sensor derived air quality in your area.
  • Mount Shasta:  PM2.5 is monitored in Mount Shasta and can be viewed on the interactive AirNow maps showing permanent monitors here and all monitors and sensors here.
