Fraud - Election, Candidate or Voting

The County Clerk/Registrar of Voters Office has no legal authority nor training to conduct fraud investigations into alleged election/ candidate/voter fraud. However, the Registrar of Voters Office will provide a complainant with the Secretary of State's Election Voter Complaint Form, and/or refer the complainant directly to the State Fraud and Investigations Unit, 916-657-2166 or 1-800-345-VOTE.

It is the Registrar of Voters' policy that any written complaints sent directly to the their office will be forwarded to the Secretary of State Fraud Division. The Registrar of Voters will notify complainant, either verbally or in writing, that the complaint has been forwarded to the State and provide state contact information to the complainant. If the complainant is unwilling/unable to put the complaint in writing, the person will be referred directly to the Secretary of State Fraud Division to talk with an investigator and/or file a complaint via telephone.
