Seed Program

The goal of seed law enforcement is to protect seed consumers, including vegetable and field crop growers, as well as urban landscapers.

The Seed Program:

  • Regulates the marketing of seeds so that quality information is accessible and accurate.
  • Test for seed purity and germination through sampling.
  • Investigates seed complaints and attempts to resolve buyer/seller disputes through seed products.

Seed must be labeled for percentage of germination, kind of seed, percentage of inert matter, weed and noxious weed seed. If the seed does not meet requirements, then there could be an introduction of an invasive species, increased herbicide usage, poor yield and in-acceptability of the crop in the market place.
